I have selected 4 of my favourite Michael Morpurgo books. I would recommend them to 8-12 years. I hope you like them!
Long way home
A short, simple yet touching book about a young boy who spends a summer at yet another foster family. The family have a boy called Tom who doesn't want George to stay. But one night they realise that maybe they can get along and be friends. Has George finally found a family and more importantly a family where he can be happy?
Twist of gold
This is a wonderful, exciting and epic book. There is a potato famine in Ireland and Sean and Annie have to leave their mother to find their father, who went to America. All their other siblings died from the famine. They set off on a dangerous adventure across seas and along land. Will they find their Father?
Alone on a wide, wide sea
Arthur is an orphan in WWII and is separated from his sister. He is hosted in Australia by a cruel man. He escapes on a thrilling journey meeting all kinds of people. He discovers his incredible talent of designing yachts. Sixty years on, his daughter Allie embarks on an adventure to England. Her journey is tough. Will Allie find her Aunty (Arthur's sister)?
Adolphus Tips
This is possibly my favourite Michael Morpurgo book. Based on real life about Lily who lives on a farm in Slapton. When the army come to practice for invading France, she is forced to move out and never go back as the area has been cornered off by the army. Her brave cat has other ideas and returns into the forbidden area. Lily stepps back into the area to find him. Will she succeed without being spotted?
