Summer 2024 Book Haul | Anne Of Green Gables set, a new Persephone book & MORE

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to my blog! Today I wanted to share a book haul, seeing as I've been on quite a few bookish days out recently. I bought many of these in charity shops and second hand bookshops, and was overall so pleased to find so many fantastic books in great condition and reasonably cheap!

Image above features one of the second hand bookshops - how gorgeous!!

I went into town and met up with some friends last week, and just had to pay a visit to Brendon Books, where I always manage to find the most fantastic books! This day was no exception as I found the whole Anne Of Green Gables set of six books second hand in old editions for only £12 - a real bargain! I also snapped up a new Penguin Little Black Classics book of Thomas Hardy poetry. The books for £1 at the checkout are very dangerous!

Last week, I went to Bristol with some friends and visited the wonderful Book Haus Bristol, where I found Democracy: Eleven Writers and Leaders on what it is and why it matters. In light of the recent general election in England, I have been increasingly interested in politics and thought this would be an interesting read. I also found It's Not That Radical by Mikaela Loach, which is a transformative book not only about the climate crisis but also other issues which interact with wider global crisis and contribute to the warming of our planet. I follow the Mikaela Loach on Instagram and I've been really interested in her work so I'm excited to read this one!

We then went to Stanfords bookshop, which I absolutely love! I grabbed Blonde Roots by Bernardine Evaristo seeing as I loved Girl, Woman, Other so much and I would like to read more of her books. I also picked up And A Happy New Year? by Holly Bourne, which I actually bought in the clearance section for only £3! It's part of the Spinster Club series, of which I've already read Am I Normal Yet? and How Hard Can Love Be?. I am really looking forward to seeing what Amber, Lottie and Evie get up to!

I also went to Exeter for the day with a very close bookish friend. We were initially meant to go to Totnes, however due to issues on the train line ended up in Exeter! We still managed to have a lovely day, despite the rain and train cancellation!

We first of course went to Waterstones. There I found the Penguin English Library edition of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. We then went to the small independent bookshop Bookbag, although I didn't find anything that peaked my interest. We headed to an Oxfam Books and Music, where I found English Romantic Verse, a collection of poetry from Romantic poets, which I have been interested in recently. I also picked up Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand, an Indian book about the caste system. I was so happy to find Birthday Letters by Ted Hughes, which I've heard so much about, not least from The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie!

We also went to a wonderful second hand bookshop called BookCycle - a UK based volunteer run charity bookshop, where you choose an amount to donate for the books and all proceeds go towards the organisation for good causes. I found The Life Of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell, a book I've been wanting for ages.

I also picked up the Persephone book Dimanche and other stories by Irene Nemirovsky, although I can't remember in which bookshop!

I was so pleased to find Paper Avalanches by Lisa Williamson (who some of you may recognise as the author of The Art Of Being Normal) in a charity shop recently too, which I'm really looking forward to reading.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and supporting me in my blog. I appreciate every one of you so much and I can't wait to share more of my bookish adventures! Happy reading!

Have you read or heard of any of these books? What books have you read recently?

(If you are new here and have no idea what I'm on about, click here to find out more)

I went to a small music festival last weekend, and randomly saw two friends from primary school, who I hadn't seen in at least seven years! It was pretty weird but also kind of cool to see how they've grown up, and a little slice of who they are now.
