I Spent 20 Hours on a Ferry | what i read // Easter 2022

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my holiday! In this first post I wanted to take you along on a 20 hour ferry journey and share what I read. This was the way over and I ended up reading quite a lot. I wrote it all down so I can copy it now.

So for a little bit of context. I am half French and so travel regularly to France by ferry ( I live in the UK). It is a six hour crossing so I am relatively used to this. However this time, we were crossing down to Spain, which is over 20 hours.

I really took the time to read over this crossing and I hope you will enjoy reading about my journey!

Sunday

We've already been on the boat for an hour or two but I'm only just starting to read as we went to get a snack. It's a fairly rocky crossing so all I want to do is sit a read in the comfort of the round window of our cabin. Let's start by reading Felicity by Mary Oliver, which is a poetry collection I bought earlier this year. I've heard a lot about Mary Oliver on BookTube and I'm excited to see what I think of her.

18:35

I finished Felicity by Mary Oliver as it is so short! I love Mary Oliver's ideas and writing especially but the way I could relate it to my own life and experiences was very special and unexpected! I can't wait to delve back into this time and time again!

I am now going to carry on reading Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne. I know. I'm definitely behind on YA Book Of The Month.

Hello from present me: I read this just two weeks before posting about it for YA Book Of The Month. But I did it. It was okay!

Anyway, back to the reading. I read to page 94 this morning and I love it so far. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story develops and what happens!

Monday

10:25

I read quite a lot last night and got to page 194, coincidentally exactly 100 pages from when I last updated yesterday! I love the way that Holly Bourne writes. Its's funny but also stays real and sensitive, baring in mind the topics approached. It's just fantastic!

I've got a bit more time to read now....

13:00 (English time)

We got off the ferry so my little readathon is over! In the end I got to page 262 of Am I Normal Yet? and read the whole of Felicity by Mary Oliver. It was such a great escape from the ferry to read and I'm so glad I prioritised it. It's almost nice not to have WiFi in the cabins so I am not so tempted to look on my phone. Overall, I read 250 pages in 21 hours and (most importantly) really enjoyed it.

Although the ferry is almost wasted time because it's travelling, it's also very much a time to disconnect from everything. There is little WiFi and it's also a very multilingual space, which as a bilingual person is so nice.

I know there haven't been many updates but I will be sharing some more of what happened on holiday in the coming weeks, once I've figured out what I want to do.

Thank you. Just thank you. For commenting, for supporting me, for just reading what I have to say. It truly means so much. It's probably been a bit more chaotic the last week or so in posts because I'm writing around schoolwork and other commitments but I hope this post was enjoyable, and let me know if you have any other post ideas or book recommendations.

Reminder: Feedback form is still available for those who haven't yet completed - link here! It would mean so much to me if you could take five minutes to tell me your opinion on my blog.

I hope you are all staying well and I wish you very happy reading!

Have you read Am I Normal Yet? Do you want to? Any ideas for my holiday posts, anything you want to see? How are you doing?

(If you are new here and have no idea what I'm on about, click here to find out more)

The sun looked so pretty this morning and I just appreciate my walk to the bus stop so much at the moment! I listen to great music and just look around me and it's only ten minutes or so but it's a really special part of my day. What is your casual magic?

  1. All that time to read sounds blissful Z! That, combined it with walks on the deck to look for seabirds and cetaceans and would be just magical for me. You're doing a fabulous job at keeping the posts going, even when you're swamped with schoolwork or away on holiday. You're a complete powerhouse and your reviews are always insightful. I think I need to read more Young Adult books - I love anything that's well written. I'm going to take a look at some of your recommendations.

    1. It was wonderful! Thank you, I'm trying to keep on top of it all! Young Adult is so underrated by adults and I think anyone can read it and enjoy it. You won't enjoy every YA book you read just like you won't enjoy every book you read but there is a YA book for everyone! Happy reading and thanks for taking the time to stop by!!

  2. Logging your travel hours and reading time together is a fun idea! I find it inspiring to be honest! We will be travelling this coming Friday and I am also already planning on what I'm going to read on the flight and the layover at the airport.

Have a good week and happy reading!
